Personal Auto

Vehicle insurance covers most four-wheeled vehicles that are legal to drive on a public roadway. Each state has a required minimum liability coverage which you may build upon to add more robust coverage for your vehicles.

  • Standard coverage typically follows a vehicle, so you are covered if someone borrows your auto. It also typically follows you as a named insured on a policy if you borrow someone else’s auto.

    • Owned Autos – Covers vehicles specifically named on your policy including a 14-day grace period for newly purchased or leased vehicles.

    • Non-owned Autos – Covers vehicles borrowed from an acquaintance, a temporary rental or a temporary substitute from a dealership.

  • Available coverages

    • A – Liability covers the other person’s losses due to an accident. It is required by law for all vehicles and must meet the state’s required minimum limit.

    • B – Medical covers medical payments for the insured and any passengers.

    • C - Uninsured Motorist covers you if it is a hit and run or if the other driver is at fault and either has no coverage or is under the state’s required minimum.

    • D – Underinsured Motorist picks up where the other driver’s limits end should they have the state’s required minimum, but it is not enough.

    • E - Physical Damage to your vehicle.

Each policy will have stipulations, limits, and exclusions. Extensions, riders, and floaters are available to fill any gaps.
